Platia
Plot 47b Upper Kololo Terrace, Kampala, Uganda
About Platia
Tucked away on Upper Kololo Terrace, Platia offers a refreshing escape from the usual rush of the city. It functions as a relaxed compound housing several distinct food and drink concepts, meaning you can easily jump between a solid house blend coffee, fresh juice, wings, or a good plate of hummus. The environment is notably calm and breezy during the day, making it an easy spot to bring family or catch up quietly with friends, especially with a dedicated play space to keep children occupied.
As the week rolls on, the atmosphere shifts seamlessly. You will often find weekend markets showcasing local artisan crafts, alongside relaxed evening crowds settling in for cocktails and wine. When Friday night hits, the space transforms for its After Dark events, bringing in local DJs for a vibrant night of good beats and drinks under the open air. Just keep in mind that because multiple kitchens operate within the same space, you might end up managing a few separate bills at the end of your meal, but the overall vibe makes it well worth a lazy afternoon or a lively night out.

This place has potential, but the overall experience is disappointing. The most frustrating part is the service. Several cafes operate in the same area, each with its own menu and separate bill. Staff from different restaurants keep bringing menus, and when it’s time to pay, you have to figure out which waiter belongs to which place. It’s confusing and unnecessary. The small dishes are actually quite nice. The hummus, grilled halloumi, and similar snacks are worth trying. Unfortunately, the main courses are below average and don’t match the prices. The coffee is decent, but even the double cappuccino is surprisingly weak. If you’re visiting with young children, don’t expect much support. There is a kids’ play area, but the staff seem untrained in dealing with children. Instead of helping, they often react impatiently when kids become upset. The atmosphere gives the impression of a European-style café, but the execution falls short. Better organization, better service, and more consistent food quality would make a huge difference. Overall, it’s an okay place for coffee and light snacks, but I wouldn’t recommend it for a proper meal or for families with small children.

I’ve only been once but look forward to going back! They have lots of options and the food was really good (I couldn’t decide what to eat so chose wings and hummus). I also enjoyed some juice and ice cream. It was a nice environment and the staff were great. It was very quiet there but I’m not sure if that’s just the time of day that I went.

It is an amazing place it is! Whether you have kids or just want to hang out with friends and family, the platia got you covered with good food, quality service 👌, a play space for children and fun packed themed nights. You want a place far away from Kampala's noise, the platia is a place I recommend

One of the best spots away from Kampala City rush. Amazing food and beverage options, slow service or need to follow up constantly with the waiters to get your orders. Ambience is a way different level, good vibe with music, table arrangements and so on….. Must try is house blend coffee from Roastery. Appox price for 1kg is UGX 85grand.

Food was nice. Staff were friendly. The place has a quiet and relaxed atmosphere. Options are limited if you're vegetarian. I thought that it was quite good that there were a number of different restaurants serving different cuisines that you could order from until we got the bill(s). You get individual bills from each restaurant that you ordered from so it got a bit confusing. We ended up just totally the amount of each receipt and letting the staff sort it out between the restaurants themselves. Having a centralised billing system that takes this hassle from the customer would be much better. There is also a play area for older kids and a chargeable soft play area.
