About Hiro
Tucked away on Baskerville Avenue, Hiro sets a striking mood the moment you step inside. The interior leans heavily into a sleek, modern aesthetic with warm wood finishes and plenty of lush greenery softening the corners, creating an inviting backdrop for a relaxed evening out. It is the kind of space where you easily settle in with a pink cocktail or an iced matcha latte while waiting for the room to fill with a stylish crowd.
The menu leans into familiar favorites done with care, featuring fresh sushi rolls and delicate dumplings that pair nicely with a glass of sparkling wine. If you want to venture beyond the raw bar, the ginger and miso-braised pork remains a reliable insider choice. While the ambience and plates generally deliver, service can occasionally test your patience during the busier hours, so it pays to bring an unhurried mindset.
Prices skew on the higher side, making this more of a destination for a treat yourself kind of night rather than a casual drop-in. Tables can feel a bit snug when the dining room is packed, but the overall experience carries enough charm to warrant an evening reserved for good company and unhurried plates.

The place looks very good, I give them a 10 for that, the tables are abit squeezed, I guess they tried so hard to accommodate many people which limits privacy. We reached the place, so excited… we were ushered in well and the first disappointment was the menu taking over 15 minutes; we had to call a waiter to give us one, that was really not nice. The food took sometime, but finally came. It was tasty, score: 7/10. We ordered a Konichiwa and Yoga for drinks, then Chicken katsu bento & Pork teriyaki bento. The service was really slow..desert, clearing our table after eating, getting the bill, all took ages😔 Then the space demarcated for smoking is so close to the eating area. Someone was smoking and the whole restaurant was full of smoke, this is something that needs to be revisited by management. Limited parking space, better to come with a driver to drop you off then come back. Thanks.

The aesthetic in here was so nice. The restaurant was well decorated. The food was good though the service could be better. We had a sushi rolls, some sparkling wine, some dumplings, which were all good. But the service really needs to be improved upon it wasn’t fast and prompt was a little distracted with other tables.

It’s not my first time at HIRO but this review covers all the times I’ve been there before. The food is usually good, and so are the drinks, the valet service is very organized. But the service is always lacking. Today’s concierge basically sneered when he realised the person we came with was dining there for the first time, despite the fact that she had called in advance to ask for details and make a reservation. It’s only after we mentioned that we would leave a review that he started to treat us decently. The waitresses working on the outside areas were straight out rude, and some of the food was delayed. It will be a while before I go back to HIRO.

A very cool place in Kampala. All the seats are taken, you need to book a table in advance. Japanese cuisine, the food is delicious, there are some shortcomings. The steak was cooked to the right degree, but was oversalted, the ramen was undersalted) The cocktails were delicious, with some reservations. The place is very beautiful, new interior and dishes. The sushi was delicious. I recommend visiting.
