Mediterraneo at Villa Kololo

About Mediterraneo at Villa Kololo
Tucked away on Windsor Crescent, Mediterraneo at Villa Kololo pulls off that rare trick of feeling worlds away from the city pulse while sitting right in the middle of it. The moment you step past the glowing lights and pink flowers framing the glass structure, the mood shifts to something unhurried and effortlessly romantic. It is the kind of spot where evenings stretch out over a plate of grilled lobster, a well-poured glass of red, or wood-fired pizzas and pasta that hit just right when the crowd starts to thicken.
Beyond the charm of the courtyard and the occasional strum of a live guitar floating through the air, the draw here is the serious attention paid to the cellar. You will find passionate sommeliers ready to guide you through an impressive collection, making it a natural choice for date nights or celebratory toasts with close friends. Whether you are settling in for a slow dinner or catching a match on the rooftop with a cold drink in hand, it delivers an easy blend of international comfort and warm Ugandan hospitality.

A gorgeous gorgeous restaurant. Ideal for a date night. Warm lights, warm music, okay food. It's abit on the pricey end so go prepared. They have an exclusive upstairs section that we were told is full by a waiter who probably didn't think we could afford because they have a spending cap. I didn't like that. They have a really great and well stocked wine cellar. A great connoisseur, Vincent, who is evidently passionate about wine and food and will share everything that he knows. He is my favourite part about the place.

I had a truly excellent stay at Villa Kololo in Kampala. I had been told this charming boutique hotel was peaceful and relaxing, and it certainly lived up to its reputation. The service was impeccable throughout my stay, the restaurant offered a varied and high-quality menu, and the wine cellar was simply outstanding. The sommeliers were extremely knowledgeable and passionate, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. The lounge area is also beautifully designed and very comfortable, surrounded by lush and luxuriant vegetation that gives the place a unique atmosphere. Only one small decorative detail felt out of place: the artificial plastic lemons, which unfortunately detract from the otherwise elegant and authentic décor. To finish on a more negative note, the music from the lounge in the evening is far too loud and makes it difficult to sleep during the crucial hours between 10:00 PM and midnight. A lower volume would greatly improve the overall guest experience. Overall, a wonderful address in Kampala that I would gladly recommend.

Let me begin by saying I have eaten at Mediterraneo more than 30 times since 2010. Just before COVID, I had an issue with service and haven't returned until 1/8/2026. We arrived at 7:05p for our reservation. First, they made a "makeshift" table by the bar ...... Basically in the walkway of traffic for all the servers 🙄. I requested a different table obviously and was accommodated. 2nd..... Waited for server 10-15 minutes before one appeared. We made our dinner and drink orders at 7:20p. However, I also wanted to enjoy a bottle of 🍷. My server said someone else would come to explain about all the available selections........ 20 minutes later I had to ask again..... 3rdly.... Once I made the bar order and received our drinks...... It took 30 minutes before we received some fresh 🍞 and 🧈....... Afterwards, I inquired about my red snapper starter...... 30 minutes later we received the starter....... Mind you, we were given such a small table that the bread was removed (unfinished)..... when the appetizer finally came..... The red snapper was nice. Also worthy to note..... that we were only given eating utensils but no serviettes or traditional cloth napkins... My girl was irritated and asked the supervisor why the dinners were taking so long to prepare. He was astonished to find out we had been there almost 2hrs without the main course.. When the entrees finally came 2 HOURS after initial arrival...... I had to ask for serviettes, condiments, etc.... Entrees: My filet with pepper sauce and roasted wedges was requested to be medium.... Received my steak more like medium rare...... With way too much pepper seasoning as well... CURIOUS WHY MY FILET WAS ALMOST HALF THE SIZE OF THE OTHER FILET? My girl ordered the the filet with mushroom sauce to be medium well with mash potatoes.... She said her meal was nice. I was disappointed the manager never came around to check on customers.... Etc. The server and supervisor also didn't inquire to see how the food was and anything else would be needed. Lastly, I would estimate our server checking on us intermittently (every 20 minutes) This use to be my favorite restaurant when I come visit Kampala and I don't know if there has been a change of ownership or just poor management and service personnel! l guess I'll wait some years again to see if any improvement can be seen. There are just so many restaurants in Kampala. Regards, Dr. Mendoza

Service was great, Atmosphere, perfect. But not the food; my dish was overcooked and really bland. My friends didn't enjoy their food as well.
