Hanabi Modern Japanese
Le Petit Village Hotel & Spa, Ggaba Road, Kampala, Uganda
About Hanabi Modern Japanese
Tucked away in the corner of Le Petit Village on Ggaba Road, Hanabi Modern Japanese offers a distinct change of pace from the usual Kampala dining scene. It is an intimate, cozy spot with roughly twenty seats, where you can watch attentive chefs meticulously craft everything from fresh sashimi and beautifully presented sushi rolls to inventive salmon and tempura sushi tacos. The menu also features comforting bowls of ramen with smoked duck breast and pork, alongside seasonal hot starters like yakitori.
Service is swift, professional, and genuinely helpful when you need guidance through the menu or a solid drink recommendation. The atmosphere feels worlds away, paired nicely with Japanese beer and well-mixed cocktails that round out the experience. Because seating is quite limited and the word is well and truly out among local food lovers, securing a table ahead of time is definitely the way to go.

I’ll start with sushi taco in case you don’t continue reading … come for the sushi tacos! A very nice and unique blend of salmon and rice and tempura in a seaweed shell. Wonderful! The setting was beautiful, something out of Europe or even Japan. The service was professional and attentive. I loved seeing a very serious Ugandan sushi chef perfecting his craft. The price point is reasonable based on the service and food delivered. A really special and quality meal and experience.

A shopping store with a variety of food items ushers you into a cute little Japanese restaurant tucked away in the corner. The music was fab, prices are friendly on the wallet, and of course, the food just hit the right spot- it was absolutely breathtaking! The cocktails were amazing! The service was super fast and the waiters were really helpful with food recommendations. Everything was just right. TRY: Slow cooked Pork belly in miso and eel sauce or the teriyaki chicken. I only wish that they could add dumplings to their menu.

A good restaurant of Asian (Japanese) cuisine. They serve salmon, tuna, octopus sashimi. Very tasty (a bit salty) ramen with smoked duck breast and pork. Polite staff, cozy atmosphere, about 20 seats.

The best sushi I have eaten in Kampala. The service is friendly and timely. The price is above average but matches the quality. Very nice Japanese beer. However, the restaurant is inside the supermarket, so there is no proper atmosphere - for example, there were 2 music ambiences, the one for the restaurant and for the supermarket.
